Dragon Ball Z Episode 1 Arrival of Raditz The New Threat

Dragon Ball Z is an animated series, originally created in Japan, which adapts the last 26 volumes of the manga anime “Dragon Ball” by Akira Toriyama. The Z series started in 1989 in Japan and ran there until 1996, when it began syndication in the United States. The show was a hit on the Cartoon Network, leading to many improvements in its voices, music, and editing.

Dragon Ball Z Episode 1 is called “The New Threat.” (A prior title was “The Arrival of Raditz,” and in Japan it was called, “Mini-Gohan is an Overprotected Boy! I Am Gohan.”) In this story, Goku is shown living quietly in the countryside with his wife Chi-Chi and their son Gohan. Five years ago Goku helped defeat the evil king Piccolo when he tried to take over the world. Peace has reigned since, and Goku is planning to spend a nice peaceful day with Gohan, visiting Master Roshi’s island.

But, unknown to him, an alien spaceship is on its way to Earth, full of trouble. At the beginning of Dragon Ball Z Episode 1, Goku’s domestic life is shown, with him knocking down a tree to use for firewood and Chi-Chi fretting he’ll hurt himself. She’s trying to find Gohan, but he doesn’t come when she calls. So Goku takes their flying nimbus vehicle to search for their son.

Meanwhile, a farmer goes to investigate a spaceship falling from the sky. An evil alien Raditz comes out and expresses his disappointment that Earth still has living creatures on it. He suggests that Kakarot was supposed to have taken care of that but has failed.

Raditz assesses the farmer’s power level as being low and harmless. When the farmer becomes afraid and shoots at Raditz, the alien catches the bullet and throws the bullet back at him, hitting him and knocking him into his truck. Raditz expresses his distaste for people’s fragility and goes looking for a higher-powered creature.

Meanwhile, Gohan is lost in the woods and is scared. He starts chasing a butterfly, even up a tree, and he gets more and more lost. A sabertooth tiger jumps out in front of him, and Gohan plays dead. The sabertooth has a nibble and then runs away, stealing Gohan’s hat. Gohan runs after the tiger to get his hat back but ends up falling over a cliff. He saves himself by hanging onto a tree branch with his tail. He then gets distracted by a pretty bird and, in trying to get to it, he falls into a river.

Goku finds the sabertooth wearing Gohan’s hat and retrieves the hat. From his flying nimbus, he spots Gohan. A tunnel of water separates them. Gohan shoots out of the tunnel and falls down a waterfall. Once again he manages to save himself by hanging onto a branch. He jumps into his father’s arms. Goku returns Gohan’s hat to him, joking that it had been there all the time. He takes his son home to get cleaned up for their visit to Master Roshi.

Meanwhile, Raditz lands his spaceship next to Piccolo, whom Gohan had defeated five years previously. Raditz says he’s looking for a man named Kakarot and that he thought Piccolo was Kakarot. Piccolo says no, get lost. Raditz assesses Piccolo’s power level at 322 and thus high enough to show he’s not an Earthling, but not a big threat either. Piccolo says he doesn’t want to fight, but Raditz says he does. So Piccolo throws an energy blast at Piccolo, but it barely singes his leg hairs. The alien is about to demonstrate one of his fighting talents, called the double-Sunday, against Piccolo, but is interrupted because his scout detects a huge power level, which Raditz thinks must be Kakarot and sets off to investigate. Raditz reveals that he is from the Saiyans, a race of mighty warriors that sent an infant to Earth to carry out their mission, which has seemingly failed. A teaser at the end of Dragon Ball Z Series 1 hints that Raditz will encounter Goku, and Goku will learn the secrets of his past.

Gohan SSJ2

In the popular Japanese manga series Dragonball Z, many characters have caught the attention of the large fan following. Although these fans enjoy the liking of popular names including Goku and Chi-Chi, it is the first Saiyan/human hybrid Gohan who has the highest fan fare. The half-breed Saiyan has an awkward personality and unique values as he is not quite like the others. As Dragonball Z has adapted and matured, so has the character of Gohan. Son Gohan or Gohan as referred to in the United States, possesses unusual abilities and powers because of his mixed heritage. With his mixed blood, Gohan has the uncanny ability to freely manipulate his chi giving him the ability to fly and concentrate into high-powered energy blasts and beams. Combine these abilities with his enhanced speed, and superhuman strength and he is a force to be reckoned with ascending to Super Saiyan 2 level with characters assisting him in unlocking his true potential throughout the series.

Gohan

While Gohan has incredible fighting skills, since birth he has never truly enjoyed the sport of fighting. While his powers surpass that of a full-blooded Saiyan, his motivation and desire to fight is not inherent. Later in life, Gohan will show a special interest in fighting strictly to protect his friends and family, showing he has a pure heart with an undeniable love for those who are close to him. After being mentored by his surrogate father Piccolo, their turbulent relationship turns from one of despair after the death of Goku, to one of love and admiration. After Piccolo sacrifices himself to save the life of Gohan, Gohan is forced to unleash his fire and Great Ape powers and proves overall victorious.

Throughout the sagas of Dragonball Z several versions of Gohan have been introduced. From the shy and growing child Gohan, to Ultimate Gohan introduced during the Fushion Saga, he seems to transform throughout the series. With a heart of gold and superior fighting skills, Gohan has become one of the most popular characters in the Dragonball Z manga series.
